Sašo Džeroski is a leading researcher in artificial intelligence and data science, serving as Head of the Department of Knowledge Technologies at the Jožef Stefan Institute in Ljubljana, Slovenia. He is also a full professor at the Jožef Stefan International Postgraduate School and a foreign member of the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts.
With over two decades of experience, Sašo has pioneered methods in machine learning, data mining, and automated modeling of dynamic systems, with applications spanning systems biology, ecology, medicine, and environmental sciences. His research group, comprising 17 members, focuses on constraint-based data mining, structured output prediction, and computational scientific discovery.
He has coordinated several EU-funded projects, including MAESTRA and IQ, and contributed to initiatives like PHAGOSYS in systems biology. Sašo’s contributions have helped shape the field of AI in science, particularly in ecological modeling, bioinformatics, and integrative data analysis. He is a Fellow of EurAI and a member of Academia Europaea.
